Environmental Scout Centre Kočevski rog
Environmental Scout Centre Kočevski rog (SOC) sits deep in the vast forests of Kočevski Rog, at the site where the Rog sawmill once stood. In the early twentieth century it was the largest sawmill in Slovenia. In 1991 the Slovenian Catholic Girl and Boy Scouts Association received the house from the Slovenia Forest Service for long-term lease to turn it into a place dedicated to environmental education shaped by the scout method.
Our approach centers on experiencing nature in a direct and meaningful way, which encourages responsibility and respect for the environment. Young visitors learn about the unique habitats of Kočevski Rog, about the importance of forests and meadows, and about the plants and animals that live here.
Thanks to its secluded setting in the heart of the forest, the Environmental Scout Centre is an ideal base for many kinds of activities. We offer:
A technology-free world where groups can slow down, clear their minds, and step away from everyday noise.
The Skavtek forest learning trail that introduces the local forest in an engaging and environmentally friendly way. A guide leads interactive games and sensory activities that help guests discover nature more deeply.
The Rog Sawmill Museum where visitors explore the history of one of Slovenia’s most important wood processing sites. The remains of the original sawmill can still be seen in the surrounding area.
Accommodation for outdoor school groups, including equipment for multi-day camps, sleeping areas, and a kitchen that supports comfortable stays in the natural environment. Tents can be set up upon request.
Accommodation for scout units, international groups, families, and clubs, offering a restful setting for programs, celebrations, learning experiences, and exploration of the region’s rich natural, cultural, and historical heritage.
Programs for schools, kindergartens, and youth organizations, where children and young people learn environmental topics and scout skills through hands-on activities. We can provide single-day nature programs, weekend workshops, or support for outdoor school programs of up to two weekdays.
