About Visiting Slovenia

  • Where is Slovenia? 
Slovenia is in Central Europe, bordered by Italy, Austria, Hungary, and Croatia. We are part of the European Union and the Schengen Area.

  • Is Slovenia safe to visit? 
Yes. Slovenia is peaceful, developed, and one of the safest countries in Europe. We are not a post-war country and have no war damage or refugee camps.

  • Do you have orphanages we can visit or volunteer in? 
No. We do not have orphanages as some may imagine, and visiting children’s institutions is not permitted for privacy and safeguarding reasons.

Accommodation

  • Can you find or book accommodation for us?
 No, we cannot book or arrange accommodation for you. We can:

    • Offer stays at our Environmental Scout Centre

    • Post your request to our internal Scout leaders’ network (leaders only) so someone may contact you directly if they can help

  • Can we camp anywhere in nature?
 No. Camping is only allowed in official campsites, mountain huts, or with landowner permission.

  • Can we camp in Triglav National Park? 
No. Wild camping is prohibited. You can only stay overnight in official mountain huts or designated camping areas.

Connecting with Local Scouts

  • Can you arrange a meeting with a local Scout group?
 We cannot guarantee meetings. We can post your request on our internal leaders’ network. If a group is interested, they will contact you directly.

  • When should I contact you about meeting local Scouts?
 At least 3 months before your trip for the best chance of finding a group to connect with.

Activities and Adventures

  • What activities can Scout groups do in Slovenia?
 Hiking, mountain climbing, cycling, kayaking, rafting, caving, skiing, horseback riding, cultural visits, and nature conservation projects. See our Activities and Adventures page for details and useful links.

  • Where can I find information on trails, routes, and activities?
 The official tourism website slovenia.info and the Slovenian Alpine Association en.pzs.si are great starting points.

Rules and Safety

  • What rules do visiting Scout groups need to follow?
 You must follow the Scout Law, respect local property, obey campsite regulations, avoid alcohol and drugs, leave no trace, and inform local authorities about your visit. See our Know the Rules page for full details.

  • Do we need to inform the police before visiting? 
Yes, especially if you plan to camp in nature or hold large events. For campfires, also inform the local fire department.

Trip Registration

  • Do we really need to tell you we’re coming? 
Yes. Slovenia is receiving more and more Scout groups each year. We keep track of who is in the country so we can help in case of emergencies.

  • What information do you need from us? 
Group name, country, number and ages of participants, travel dates, regions you’ll visit, accommodation type, planned activities, and contact details.
