Environmental Scout Centre Kočevski rog
The Skavtek forest learning trail invites all nature enthusiasts to come and explore it.
The trail was created to offer visitors of the Scout Environmental Centre an activity through which they can discover the surroundings, learn something new and enjoy an outdoor experience. Because we are scouts and care about nature, the trail was designed with minimal impact on the forest. This means you will need to pay a bit more attention when searching for each point, but do not worry, you will have a map to guide you, additional instructions are provided in this booklet, and each point is marked with a stamp on a wooden post.
Some important information about Skavtek:
The trail takes 2 to 3 hours, depending on how long you stay at each point. It is about 2 km long, so bring enough water and food.
It includes 11 points, where visitors learn about tree and animal species of the Kočevje forests. We recommend doing an activity at each point. Suggestions can be found in this booklet.
Bring an ink pad for the stamps, since each point has a stamp that can be imprinted on the map, distribute the maps to participants at the start.
Visitors can walk the trail alone or in a group, but they will need the map.
There are no signs or direction markers on the trail, so follow the map and the descriptions in the booklet.
For guided groups, we recommend that the guide brings a compass, a measuring tape and casts of animal tracks. The guide should also review the activity instructions in advance, since some activities require additional materials.
